Provably fair games: how to verify a result yourself

CasinoCrypto Editorial · 4 min read

Provably fair is the one genuine technical advantage crypto casinos brought to online gambling. It lets you verify, after the fact, that the operator did not change the outcome of a round.

How it works

Before a round, the site commits to a server seed by publishing its hash. You supply or are assigned a client seed. The outcome is derived from both seeds plus a nonce. Because the server published the hash first, it cannot swap the seed afterwards without the hash no longer matching.

Verifying a round

  • Open the fairness or verify panel in your account.
  • Rotate your seed pair, which reveals the previous server seed.
  • Hash the revealed server seed and compare it with the hash you were shown before you played.
  • Re-run the seeds and nonce through the published algorithm and confirm you get the same result.

What it does not prove

Provable fairness covers the outcome of a single round. It says nothing about whether the operator will pay you, whether the licence is real, or whether withdrawal limits will trap your balance. Treat it as one signal among several.
